Soldier Pass is a very popular trail for hikers and mountain bikers. This trail has so much to see in the short 2 mile path and even has an option for a loop hike with Brins Mesa. If you are looking for a scenic, relatively easy hike past cool rock formations and sacred pools than this is a Sedona must hike trail!
The hike literally begins in a neighborhood which may explain some of it's popularity. The trailhead is located at the end of Soldier Pass road. Park in the designated lot, make sure to have a Red Rock Pass, and arrive between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. as this trail is closed before and after these times. Read the trail signage and begin making your way north on Soldier Pass Trail.
Your first real sightseeing opportunity for this hike is only 1/4 mile into the journey. You will see a massive sinkhole on your right called Devil's Kitchen which was formed in the 1880's. Take a look around because it is pretty cool. In just 1/4 mile further down the trail you will come to Seven Sacred Pools.
Continue on Soldier Pass until you meet and pass a jeep road at around 1.2 miles. You will see a fork in the trail. The trail to the right will take you to the arches which can be seen from the trail. With a little effort and about 1/4 mile of additional hiking you can make your way up to the arches and look around. If you choose to do this than just come back on the same trail. The trail to the left is the main trail and continues toward Brins Mesa where you will climb an increasingly steep and rocky trail to the top for some great views. At around 2 miles the trail levels out on top of Brins Mesa, then continues for another 1/4 miles where it will intersect with Brins Mesa Trail. If you wish to turn this into a 5 mile loop hike continue on Brins Mesa Trail. If you choose to take in the scenic views and call it a day then just head back the way you came.
